New COVID 19 Access considering the new National Lockdown!

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic the Faculty Leadership Team has continually reviewed our processes and procedures in order to ensure that we are able to keep our staff and students as safe as possible. At present, the overriding principle is that all staff should work from home if it is possible for them to do so.

In the context of the current national lockdown and against a backdrop of increasing infection rates in Manchester, we have been considering the impact of travel by public transport on those colleagues who are unable to do their work from home. We have decided to restrict on-campus working hours to 7am – 4pm, weekdays only.

This change will enable all staff and students who travel on public transport to travel outside peak times and reduce the risk of contact with other people.  The revised opening hours will be in place for the next three weeks and then the situation will be assessed again.  It is hoped that by that point we will be past the peak of the current infection rate and will be able to return to our extended opening hours.  The change will take effect from Monday 18th January to allow time for research plans to be adjusted.  For activities that require access outside these times, e.g. for teaching or for critical Covid related research, this can be facilitated with the approval of FLT.  We will also continue to enable access for well-being reasons, but this will be limited to one day per week.

The Government has reintroduced shielding for vulnerable people and so we need to ask line managers/supervisors to discuss with those coming on to campus how they are travelling and whether it is safe for them to come on site.

We all need to consider whether on campus activity is absolutely necessary, or if it could be done at home or postponed for the next three weeks. Please continue to have these conversations with your line manager.
