Last day to fill out the Post Graduate Research Survey (PRES)
TL;DR: Log into My Manchester <my.manchester.ac.uk> and you'll see a big banner. Click to fill in the survey. We take it seriously and will enter you in a raffle.
As you may know (esp if you were around 2 years ago) every two years we participate in the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES). This is a UK wide survey and it provides both high level and some detailed information that guides how we do things for PGRs!
Out of the last PRES, we made a number of changes, including:- launch of the Mercury talk series and after talk gathering
- regular opportunities to meet and chat with Simon and myself, most lately with the biweekly drop in sessions on Friday’s
- guidance about how to buy the most powerful machine you can via IT services as well as negotiating with them to keep access to the extended catalogue, plus evangelizing ResearchIT offerings
- increasing the role of the mentors
- rewarding GTAs and improving their conditions (for example, next year we will have three GTA coordinators including me who will be specifically tasked with looking out for GTA workload and well-being)
There are more! Some initiatives have been inflected by lockdown, of course, but we took on board your feedback and tried to act on it. Some endeavors require a sustained effort, of course, and some may not have worked out. Tell us what you like and offer suggestions for other things we might do!
The PRES is an opportunity to give us info to further steer our efforts.
It’s anonymous, though we do know if you’ve completed it. You should have an email with a link to follow. I hope to have a raffle of more vouchers for those who complete it! You'll be auto entered if you submit a response to the survey.(The GTA vouchers are coming! The forms...oh the forms...)
