    Funded Extensions

The UKRI, the University of Manchester and Research England have all made additional funding available for extensions of up to three months for PGRs who have been unable to mitigate delays due to COVID-19 or adjust their research project. This now includes money to support self-funded PGRs and those with external sponsors unable to provide living cost support for any granted extension. For full details please refer to the PGR FAQs and contact compsci-sso@manchester.ac.uk.

    GTA "Thank You" Vouchers

    Hi folks,

I finally have gotten all the vouchers (it's complicated and I'll be happy to discuss it/rant about it at a future mentor's drinks session) and will be distributing them this weekend (which is also a bit complicated :)). So you should have your Amazon or Deliveroo voucher in your email by Monday, if not sooner.

Please spend them quickly because we're heading to the end of the fiscal year (Aug 1st) and weird things might happen then.

All of the staff are extraordinarily grateful for the enormous efforts put forth in the past year. It's been tough for all of us.

We have several summer projects which hope to make marking less burdensome next year and we all hope that the pandemic abates significantly. It's not hard to predict that semester 1, at least, will remain challenging. We have a new GTA team coming on (Bijan, Viktor, and Pierre to replace Gareth) as part of our efforts to support you.

I'll have more in the near future, but I have to go wrestle the spreadsheets to get y'all your vouchers!

As always, if you have concerns, questions, suggestions or issues, please contact us! We're here to help.

    Cheers,
    Bijan.

The Data Science Club relaunches on Friday 16th July

Academic Leads: Dr David Wong, Dr Tingting Wu and Dr Matthew Thorpe

The Innovation Clubs are targeted particularly at early career researchers, helping to build communities of practice around key digital research technologies and providing a forum for researchers to share their knowledge, experience and practical skills in these areas. In addition to the monthly club meetings, there is a dedicated Teams space for UoM staff to discuss publications, funding calls and events relevant to Data Science research.

We welcome new members and referrals to external stakeholders but please ask them to sign up here or contact matthew.thomas@manchester.ac.uk for more information.
