Computer Science Undergraduate Prizes
Each year the Department awards a number of prizes to undergraduates for their academic performance and contribution to the Department. The prizes currently offered are listed below, followed the names of winners in previous years.
- Williams/Kilburn Medal (£150). Outstanding final year (Year 3/4/5) student. The medal is awarded on an occasional basis to students of exceptional distinction whose performance throughout their undergraduate course has been of outstanding merit. Eligibility: all programmes at Year 3/4/5 .
- Kilburn Prize (£120). Outstanding final year (Year 3/4/5) examination performance, showing particular distinction in the written part of the final examination in the Honours Department of Computer Science. Eligibility: all Single Honours programmes at Year 3/4/5.
- Edwards Prize (£90). Awarded to the student who, has, in the opinion of the Examiners, performed with distinction throughout their degree programme in examinations, laboratories and projects relating to Computer Engineering. Eligibility: all Single Honours programmes at Year 3/4/5.
- Professors' Prizes (£100). Outstanding performance in Year 3. This prize is awarded separately for: Single Hons (one prize covers all SH programmes), CM, CSBM, HCI. Eligibility: all programmes at Year 3.
- Head of Department Award (£100). For outstanding contribution to the life of the Department of Computer Science. Eligibility: graduating students on all programmes at Year3/4/5. Up to 5 awards per year.
- AT&T Prize (£100). Best third year undergraduate project. Eligibility: all programmes at Year 3.
- BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT Prize (£150). For the best final-year Education Project. Eligibility: all programmes at Year 3.
- Certificate of Excellence (no £). Awarded to top 10% of graduating students, based on the final degree average. Eligibility: graduating students on all programmes at Year 3/4/5.
- University awards for outstanding academic achievement (£1000). The University will consider the top 0.5% of undergraduates (nominated by each Department) for an Outstanding Academic Achievement Award. Eligibility: all programmes at Year 3/4/5. Maximum nominations: 2.
- Professors' Prizes (£100). Outstanding performance in Year 2. This prize is awarded separately for: Single Hons (one prize covers all SH programmes), CM, CSBM, HCI. Eligibility: all programmes at Year 2.
- The Kate Kneebone Acorn Bursary (£500 + opportunity of internship at ARM). Awarded on the grounds of academic merit to a student who has shown commitment, determination, enthusiasm, personal application and promise. Eligibility: all programmes at Year 2.
- Michael Jealous Memorial Prize (£200). For best Year 1 student. Eligibility: all programmes at Year 1.
- Golden Anniversary Prizes (£100). For excellence in Year1 studies. Up to 5 prizes can be awarded. Eligibility: all programmes at Year 1.
- The Netcraft Prize (£250) [From AY19]. For the 10 students with the highest Year 1 overall mark. Eligibility: all programmmes at Year 1 except CM and HCI.
